Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Under unique circumstances. Some of these unique circumstances may justify an abortion, such as when pregnancy is the result of incest or rape, when the life or health of the mother is judged by competent medical authority to be in serious jeopardy. But even these circumstances do not automatically justify an abortion. Those who face such circumstances should consider abortion only after consulting with their local Church leaders if applicable and medical doctors.
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I believe that the government should maintain fiscal responsibility including a balanced budget. Each reduction would have to be decided on its own merits. Excess debt, unbalanced budgets, unchecked spending including entitlements can bring devastating consequences.
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Separation of church and state means that the government has no authority to dictate faith and beliefs or non-faith to the people. Government-sponsored churches or government programs aimed at discouraging faith or religion would be a violation of "separation of church and state."
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Healthcare coverage should not be compulsory. Free market healthcare will help encourage competition to help reduce costs. Employers should encourage and offer a variety of healthcare options for their employees. Allowing healthcare to be bought and sold freely across state lines is an effective method in promoting competition in the healthcare market.
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Individuals should not be denied immigration based on country of origin, nationality, or religion. Individuals seeking to immigrate to the United States should have a history of being an upstanding citizen void of serious criminal past in their home country. Those who immigrate to the United State should seek a path toward citizenship.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. I believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. I believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, repentance; third, baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
My voting record as a Town Board Trustee reflects my commitment to a government for the people. While Vice President of my area chamber of commerce I always demonstrated a pro-business policy and attitude based on my belief in the free markets.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I am a former Town of La Veta, CO Board Trustee. I served on numerous committees including the water and sewer, police and code enforcement, streets and allies, and the budget and finance committee. After my term, I was invited to serve on the Chamber of Commerce Board for the region, first as Secretary and then as Vice President. I attend a private Christian university where I am double majoring in Business Finance and Intercultural Peace Building with a minor in Political Science. I am also a seminary graduate, eagle scout, and served a two-year volunteer mission.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am a resident of Huerfano County and as a native Coloradoan, I care deeply for the land, resources, and people of our great state. I can be described politically as a Christian, Constitutional Conservative because these are the values I was raised with and the principles I live by. And that is something not even Denver will ever change. I have increasing concerns about the direction our state is heading and that is the motivation behind my candidacy. At one time we were a largely conservative state that included blue-collar democrats who often held the same principles. That has changed in recent years as the larger urban areas have given way to the misguided political ideologies of the left, abandoning the interests and principles that have historically been the fertile ground for Colorado’s growth, industry, and quality of life.
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Full observance of the second amendment encourages liberty and freedom and promotes responsible gun ownership.
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
The Electoral College should be abolished.
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
Excess regulation is a burden on the people and encroaches on individual liberties. Legislators should prioritize legislation and encourage a reduction in legislation. The areas of focus affecting my district are the conservation of water rights and agriculture, promotion of economic development, and a commitment to constitutional freedoms including a repeal of "red flag laws".
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
I condemn racism on any level and believe it should never be tolerated. Racism can have negative and far-reaching effects on individuals and communities. I believe that the allegation of racism should not be used to stifle political discourse.
