Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has a livable income.
It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health insurance.
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.
More restrictive gun control is needed to protect public safety.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Additional regulations are needed to prevent climate change.
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
The United States should help defend Israel from attack by its enemies.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments.
Islamic law (Sharia) should take precedence over national and state laws where there are Islamic majority communities in the U. S.
Congress should pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.
People should be allowed to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms based on "gender identity."
I support sanctuary cities.
It is OK for Congress to exempt itself from compliance with laws applicable to all citizens.
I support the death penalty.
Tuition-free public education should be guaranteed through college.
The United States should protect its sovereignty from the United Nations.
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
I voted in these primaries and general elections:
2010 General Election, 2012 General Election, 2014 Republican Primary, 2016 General Election, 2016 Republican Primary
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
To save the life of the mother
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
President Trump has done the right thing by supporting the generals in their efforts to go after ISIS. The results speak for themselves. Going forward, I believe a strengthened military must be able to respond to a variety of threats at any given time. We need to increase defense spending across the board. I believe in peace through strength and I believe that is dangerous that our footprint has been shrinking. It is extremely concerning that our Navy is at its smallest levels since 1917. We need to be able to respond to an increasingly dangerous world.
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
Our flawed human nature requires a need for checks and balances.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My Christian faith informs much of my worldview. I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and every day I strive to be his hands and feet. I believe in servant leadership and that’s why I first made the decision to run for public office. There are always many pressures in these jobs and we need more men and women with character in leadership positions who will stick to their principles and represent their neighbors, especially when it is hard.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
When I ran for State Representative for House District 126, I told my neighbors that I would focus on the things they cared about and bring transparency to state government, limit the growth of government, eliminate wasteful government spending, and bring more accountability to unelected bureaucrats. I went to Austin and did exactly that. My neighbors in House District 126 are very familiar with my voting record; I sent it to them every week in my Capitol Updates that were delivered to the inbox of anyone who asked. I believe that you are entitled to know exactly how your elected officials are representing your interests. I was named a "Faith and Family Champion" by Texas Values and both the National Federation of Independent Business and Texas Right to Life gave me an "A" for my voting record during the recently completed legislative session. I was even named an “Effective Conservative” by the Conservative Roundtable of Texas.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Above all, the American people need to have options for choosing healthcare options that suit their needs. Rather than expand options in the marketplace, Obamacare reduced them and, in turn, caused prices to rise so fast, people could not afford the few options available to them. Instead, we need federal rules to allow for buying insurance across state lines, individuals and small businesses to be able to band together in Associated Health Plans so they can then negotiate for health coverage like corporations and labor unions are able, and we need to allow people to save or spend dollars tax free on their health care premiums. Another major issue that must be addressed is the rising drug prices, which is a major component of health insurance. We need to be demanding reform at the FDA to bring drugs to market more quickly and allowing generics to be brought to the marketplace more easily that we do now.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
I believe in the power of the American free market. It is important that Washington DC is focused on getting government out of the way – not regulate it to death. I met with a small business owner just the other day who told me that his company is paying $14,000 per year, per employee – just in compliance costs. The attitude of the Obama administration, which regulated the economy to death, is why we saw such anemic growth during his time in office.
What changes should be made to the tax code?
I believe that the tax package that was just signed by President Trump will unleash the American economy and will be beneficial for many in Texas. There is no doubt that Washington is on an unsustainable path. Our country now borrows $1.8 billion EVERY DAY. By the year 2026, 100% of what the government brings in will do to entitlements and defense spending. We must address the social welfare structure because it is on an unsustainable path. We must be focused on getting folks off unemployment and back working. That’s where I believe we need to start. I will not vote for any tax increases while in office. We have a spending problem in DC, not an income problem. Additionally, I believe that DC needs to embrace a zero-based budgeting policy to start targeting waste in the system and I will work to adopt a balanced budget amendment to the United States Constitution (which is something I supported in Austin) in order to finally force Congress to address its long-term fiscal issues.
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
The welfare system cannot incentivize recipients to stay in the system, but rather it needs to help prepare them to go back into the workforce. How we end intergenerational is by equipping folks with the tools they need to be a productive member of society. In Austin, I helped pass a bill that allows community colleges, such as Lone Star, to begin offer four-year bachelor degrees in applied technology. This will allow more people to not only become certified in a trade, but also prepare them to run a business. I truly believe that if someone is able to visualize a better future for themselves, then they will be able to achieve it. We must allow states to put work and workforce development requirements on welfare programs.
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
We must acknowledge that social security is a promise that has been made to many Americans and that those already in the system are very much dependent on the future sustainability of the program. I would not change any benefit program for those already in the system. However, we have to acknowledge that there is currently $12.5 trillion in unfunded liabilities that will need to be paid over the next 75 years. This is a total that continues to rise. In 2017 trustees report also showed that Social Security's combined trust fund can only pay scheduled benefits through 2034. We need more leaders in Washington who will be honest about the structural and fiscal problems that our country faces.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
There are good people running for the Republican nomination in Congressional District 2. But the difference between me and everyone else is that I have a proven record of getting conservative results. It’s easy to memorize talking points from a consultant. In this race, voters don’t have to hope that the candidate they vote for will stick to their rhetoric from a campaign when it comes time to vote. They can vote for a proven record of backing up my words with my votes and actions: • I co-authored and voted for a ban on sanctuary cities in Texas so our local law enforcement is empowered to take criminal aliens off the streets and get them out of our country. • I put forward legislation that was signed by Governor Abbott to eliminate one regulation for every new one adopted. • I am steadfastly Pro-Life. I was proud to be a part of defunding Planned Parenthood out of the state budget, ban partial birth abortions, and stop the sale of fetal tissue in Texas.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
For America to truly continue to be a land of vast opportunity, we need to remain a nation where people of modest means can pick themselves up through hard work, determination, and the skills of their labor. With your support, we can ensure the 2nd Congressional District will continue a tradition of electing effective, limited government conservatives who have a proven record of delivering results. I’d be honored to have you stand with me in this critical election. The people of House District 126 placed their faith in me to push for limited government solutions and I hope those in the 2nd Congressional District will as well. My record is clear: I am pro-growth for our hard-working families, pro-Life to protect our unborn, pro-gun because the 2nd Amendment shall NOT be infringed, and pro-traditional marriage.
