QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Neutral

This is a complex issue that can't be answered in a questionnaire.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Neutral

This is a complex issue that can't be answered in a questionnaire.

ECONOMY

I support using taxpayer funds to lobby the state legislature and/or U.S. Congress.

Neutral

It is the responsibility of city government to provide subsidized housing at taxpayer expense.

Neutral

I believe in a helping hand to help families who fall on hard times. I don't believe in trapping families in the cycle of poverty, which happens all too often. I believe in focusing on the economy so that families can hold self-sustaining jobs that lessens the need for affordable housing.

Property taxes should be abolished.

Neutral

I believe property taxes are too high. We need to focus on lessening the burden of property taxes, ending wasteful spending, and growing our economy so that families can build generational wealth by owning a home. We need to make owning a home more attainable, and property taxes are a barrier for many.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Government should not discriminate against individuals, organizations, or business owners who affirm marriage as between one man and one woman.

Agree

I also agree that government should not discriminate against individuals, organizations, or business owners who believe in the rights of same-sex couples to marry.

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Agree

Religious liberty is guaranteed by the First Amendment.

IMMIGRATION

City officials should have the right to proclaim their city a sanctuary city for illegal aliens.

Strongly Disagree

We must abide by federal law

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am the son of a Southern Baptist Preacher. I believe we are all God's children.

Children have the right to be protected from sexually explicit materials in publicly funded libraries, including school libraries.

Agree

I believe the government should not get in the way of parental rights and how parents want to raise their children.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Neutral

We need to follow the law, but just like a person needs a photo ID for many things in life, safeguarding our elections should be a priority.

All filings by candidates for municipal office, including ballot application and campaign finance reports, should be available for public online access on the city website within 24 hours of filing deadline.

Neutral

Ballot measures which include bond issues should fully disclose both the potential tax rate increase and actual monetary increase for the average single family residence.

Neutral

EQUALITY

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

I believe in Title IX, and that biological women have fought hard to guarantee their rights to participate fairly in sports. Beyond sports, there are women who've been victims of sexual assaults who would be forced to use bathrooms, locker rooms, etc, with biological men, which could trigger many mental health issues for this victims.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) instruction should be required for all city employees.

Disagree

I believe in opportunities for all. I believe in merit-based hiring.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Taxpayers should subsidize green initiatives such as electric vehicle charging stations.

Neutral

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

To safeguard your rights as an American.

Candidates and officeholders should be required to disclose all business investments and real estate, whether in the city or in an area currently proposed for annexation.

Neutral

Please list your business investments and/or real estate, whether within the city or in an area currently proposed for annexation.

I am a small business owner who owns a building in the city, and owns a home with my partner.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to immigration and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Choose not to answer

Everyone has a different definition for each of these suggested answers. I believe in living within a budget, making good financial decisions, holding leaders accountable when it comes to taxpayer dollars. I believe in individual rights, and for people to be able to live their lives as they see fit. I believe in parental rights. I believe in religious rights. I believe in the constitution.

I voted in these primaries and general elections:

2016 Republican Primary 2016 General Election 2018 Republican Primary 2018 General Election 2020 Republican Primary 2020 General Election 2022 Republican Primary 2022 General Election

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Strongly Disagree

I believe in public safety, and that public safety is the top priority. It must be funded. Community programs can exist, and when they do, they must be held accountable and be transparent.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I believe in the Second Amendment. If a gun owner disagrees with a new law or ordinance, I believe in the right to challenge those laws and ordinances in court, possibly all the way to the US Supreme Court.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Agree

I believe there are too many people behind bars for marijuana. Just like cigarettes or alcohol, marijuana can be a regulated industry. Regulated in the sense that people know exactly the contents of what they're smoking or eating.

LOCAL

I support annual financial audits of every city department by an independent, third party auditor.

Choose not to answer

I believe in accountability in government, especially when it comes to finances. Voters must hold controllers accountable to do their jobs. Audits are an important part in holding elected officials responsible.

Please list up to three issues or projects that you think need the most attention.

Public Safety, Transparency, and economic vitality for every forgotten neighborhood.
