QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Rape, Incest, Life of the mother.

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Strongly Agree

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Neutral

For all intents and purposes we agree it is a person. But this creates a grey area where we have couples that clearly want children and are working towards that with all the benefits of modern medicine; but hamstringing them with either forever payments (and who pays after they die?) or the threat of prison for having 1 too many viable embryos.

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Choose not to answer

I am curious as to how this would be enforced at this point without major 4th amendment violations. It is all good and well to agree, but the enforcement mechanism matters greatly.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

The state does not endorse one specific religion and protects a citizens right to engage in organized religion if they so choose.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Disagree

Why would you want to do business with someone who doesn't want to? I understand that if a small town closed ranks and said we won't serve any Episcopalians that presents a problem to those worshipers but how can we "rightfully" compel someone to work against their own beliefs?

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

It is moderately important as they provide intelligence and other services in a often unstable Middle East. That said, they also routinely destabilize their neighbors because it benefits them. They are a partner best kept at arms length.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

We should end taxpayer funded health care. Then actual free market solutions can be employed. The real trick is providing the touch of regulation that also keeps people from dying the in streets.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Strongly Disagree

What right is the governments to decide when I die?

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

Repeal it. The goal was to set a bottom threshold to protect workers. It became the default pay for anything "unskilled". We can clearly see that when market forces are at work even the "unskilled" wages rise.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

Restructure education. Alabama commits more than 70% of the budget to education. There is clear need to rework the structure of our department. Remove the state from alcohol sales. We are paying for retail space and employees that we shouldn't have in the first place. Stop entering into terrible contracts. The best example is our prison project. Over budget and behind schedule and everyone just shrugs about it. It should have built in clawbacks.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Strongly Disagree

Undocumented people need to be brought into the light and shown the path to citizenship or be removed.

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Neutral

The Dept. of Ed. didn't have control of state education. It is about setting (voluntary!) guidelines and funding distribution. Now, barring the DoEd from having any control is important.

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Strongly Agree

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

Rehabilitation for those it is possible. Warehousing and safety where not.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Neutral

This is a parental responsibility. The government can put forth guidelines and it can attempt to compel honest actors to protect children. Dishonest actors (and there are many) don't care about government efforts.

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Strongly Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

We mostly need enforcement of current laws. You cannot layer much more regulation on firearms before you are talking full bans and a full ban wouldn't even work. No additional restrictions.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Lean Conservative

In reality, I am more Libertarian. I want the government to leave us all alone and have as little hand in our lives as is possible while maintaining a functional society.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No.

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Agree

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Agree

Prior to age of majority this should not be condoned.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Neutral

Marriage is a God-ordained function of the CHURCH. The government is in the business of civil partnerships and the legal framework that supports that.

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Agree

But only for a lottery where the dollars are used for mental health services. I do not want to expand any other gambling.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Catholic and I believe the Church exists to provide community and help people explore philosophical/spiritual questions. While it can be a beacon/compass for how to act it requires deliberate buy-in/acceptance.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

As long as a voter only ID can be obtained for FREE and easily there is no issue with voter ID. Otherwise it is implementing an unconstitutional poll tax.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Agree

Though the incident rate of this is vastly overblown thanks to wall to wall media coverage. Does it happen? Yes. Is it a true epidemic? No.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Neutral

I support clean air, water, and not having toxic chemicals dumped into our land. In the pursuit of those goals it can reduce climate impact.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Nuclear for baseline generation. Natural Gas provides the best for peak demand. Wind and solar with vast power banks (pumped water, etc.) is good as well but does not take care of baseline generation needs. We require a mix.
